Peacock Picture

Hello Again!
So, I realize two posts in one day may be slightly ridiculous, but I've made lots of progress on the crafting front in the past few days and wanted to share. It should be mentioned that most of my ideas come from my super-crafty mother. She seems to have much better luck making our ideas come to life.
On a trip to Thomasville last month, my mom visited a favorite fabric store downtown, Trolly's. The fabrics are beautiful, but way expensive! However, they usually have a table of discounted fabrics and a large box of $1 sample squares (which is where we spend our time). She purchased about 7 or 8 different squares, many of them in a peacock pattern with varying colors.
When I came home for a long visit this weekend we were looking at the fabrics trying to decide their fate. She mentioned that one particular peacock fabric with blues, greens, and browns would match the colors in my house. Agreeing with her, we set out on a brainstorming mission to determine the best use of the small square (well, more like a rectangle). Mom suggested we frame the fabric, something we've seen frequently on our favorite website craftgawker.com. We rushed to Hobby Lobby with only a few minutes to spare before they closed. Much to my dismay, I was not able to find a frame that I liked and complemented the fabric. Once again, super-mom suggested we just paint a frame...great idea, and one that I never would've come up with on my own :)

I purchased an 11x14 unfinished wooden frame (sorry I forgot to take a picture before I started painting). This week at Hobby Lobby the frames were on sale for 50% off, so I was able to get this for $5.50!

We had brown acrylic paint leftover from wedding projects, so that's what I used for the base coat. I also bought a champagne color for the top coat.

I painted the entire frame dark brown, then used a dry brush technique to apply the lighter color to the frame.

I then found a piece of cardboard, measured the inside of the frame and cut (I'm glad I measured because it was not exactly 11x14!)

After that, I simply cut the fabric and placed it in the frame...

Tada!

I'm off to craftgawker to find my next project!

Family Vacation!

Hello All!
Drew & I have decided that we're terrible bloggers, as we've had a hard time remembering/finding the time to give updates on our very exciting, very busy life :)
Our latest out of town adventure was a trip to the beach with my parents. I was fortunate enough to spend the entire week in Destin; however, Drew was only able to join for a few days later in the week. It was a blast nonetheless!

I spent most of the week reading. I was able to read five books in our seven days!

We also rented bikes for the week and rode to and fro on two wheels!

We also enjoyed great seafood...

and wonderful time with my parents!

All in all, it was a great week...filled with many laughs and sweet memories.
It should also be noted that I dominated at family Scrabble!
